Nationwide and Federal Updates

CDC Recognizes Racism as a Public Health Issue

This week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention called racism a serious public health threat that directly affects the well-being of millions of Americans. While the impacts of COVID-19 have impacted our society overall, it is critically important to highlight the disproportionate burden of suffering that has impacted communities of color. According to CDC data, these communities have experienced disproportionate case counts and deaths, as well as the most extreme social impacts of the pandemic.  The CDC will continue to study the impacts of social determinants on health outcomes, make new and expanded investments in racial and ethnic minority communities, expand internal agency efforts to foster diversity and inclusion, and launch a new web portal, Racism and Health.
